ECUFlash/Tactrix Quick Start Guide
· Make certain you have a healthy and fully charged battery before starting any type of flashing or extracting.
the green test connectors (found
under the drivers side knee panel) *seen below
you have a 02-05 Subaru WRX you
will need to plug in one of the flash blocks shown below. These plug
clear/white 4 pin plug for the 03-05 and a white or black 2 pin plug on
01-02 models. (these
can remain plugged
in indefinitely with no ill affect)
· Connect your Tactrix cable to the OBD2 port mounted on your knee panel making sure the other end is connected to your laptop.
Pull up the ECUFlash software and select your COM port from the Options ? Port menu. Select your ECU model from the Options ? Model menu.
You are now ready to read your ECU ROM. Note this will not harm your ECU, simply read its contents. Click the ‘Read from ECU’ icon, then turn on our ignition, and click the ‘Ok’ button. (if your test connectors are properly connected you should hear your coolant fans begin to cycle on/off).
The log window of ECUFlash will populate with debug information as it reads from your ECU. If you see ‘unable to load kernel’ in the log, then reading has failed. It could be caused by several factors but test the simple ones first such as loose connection with your tactrix cable.
You have now read your ECU ROM image in to ECUFlash. To save this image select File ? Save ROM As…
Now that you have your original map saved, you are ready to flash your modified map file.
WARNING: PLEASE MAKE SURE THE ROM ID OF THE NEW MAP MATCHES THE ORIGINAL BASE MAP
process is exactly the same as
the map extraction with the exception that you choose the ‘TEST WRITE
icon instead of the ‘READ FROM ECU’. The window will populate just as
and give you a successful confirmation.
Once you get the confirmation you can now select the ‘WRITE TO ECU’ button and begin the hard write of the map file. Once the confirmation is successful you are ready to turn the key off and disconnect the green test connectors.
IF THE WRITE FAILS DO NOT TURN THE IGNITION KEY OFF!
This is crucial because doing so will certainly brick the ECU and render it useless. If a fail happens leave everything as it is and select the ‘WRITE TO ECU’ button again and allow it to retry the write process.
